Open Discussion Forum

5th Global ERM Webinar for year 2011 kick off meeting

Kickoff for 5th Global Webinar.

Hideyuki - Global Chair & Asia Pacific Chair
Marj - European Chair
Stuart - Americas Chair
Frank - IAA Rep
Jacquenette - Program Manager
Bob - SOA
David Ingram - Senior Advisor

Will have calls bi-weekly until we are completely organized, then will shift to monthly
Next call in 2 weeks at the same time

Discussed:
- Date: week of December 5. (Stuart will be unavailable in December. He will recruit an alternate moderator for Americas program)
- Possible formats - continuous on a single date vs separate dates
- Live & Local speakers vs. Pre-recorded and global speakers
- Results of last webinar - $2k loss on $18k total expense
We should be able to stay with pricing structure and recruit more participants to bring into balance
- Need to identify a theme: one suggestion - Preparing for the Unexpected: Risk Management for Catastrophes, Systemic Risks and the Next Emerging Problem
- Program Length - 3-4 hours vs. 6 hours
- Need to decide if we will repeat format from last time, or repeat format from prior 3 webinars or something else
- Format for first 3 Webinars was to have the same 4 topics in each region and two to 4 speakers per topic for 75 minute sessions (15 minute breaks). The three regional programs ran continuously for an 18 hour total global program. Speakers were all live and all from the local region
- Format for the 4th Webinar was to have each region determine their own topics and exact length. Broadly following the format to have 1/2 to 2/3 of the program be recorded speakers from the other regions and 1/2 to 1/3 of the program being a high profile single local speaker. The three local programs were held the same week on different days. Listeners had the option to pay to hear all three programs, but very few people paid for that option.
- Jacquenette will circulate more information about the prior webinars to all
- Jacquenette will circulate a draft schedule with major milestones for the webinar
- Jacquenette will send out a meeting invitation for the bi-weekly calls.
- Next call we will seek to decide on dates, major format issues, schedule and theme.

1st International Analytics conference held May 10-11 2011 in London

About 200 people attended this conference from all around the world.. AON Benfield's Analytics leaders from major regeons met together. About half of the attendees were clients. It was a quite impressive event. I talked on the topic of ""Unravelling IFRS 4: the next phase for the reinsurance buyer". 5月9日から12日まで、ロンドンに出張し、当社主催のInternational Analytics conferenceに参加し、発表もしてきた。

Sheraton on the Park Hotelで開催された。

6) APACA membership status report – Liyaquat Khan
7) Any other matter
The latest conference call with the IACA Committee was on 2 March. One of the agenda items was the 2012 HK Colloquium. Brief summary of the discussion under this agenda item:

1. The hotel contract with the Sheraton is signed, and the contract with the HK event organiser (ICC) was almost signed. (This was signed recently following the conference call.) We have set a few milestones which are set out in my email to Ken Buffin on 1 March 2011 (attached in this email).

2. The following points were made by various IACA committee members:
• Traditionally they have an organising committee dinner prior to the start of the event. The HK taskforce shall see how this can be fit in.
• Need to set aside time in the program for the AGM of the various parties (i.e. IACA, PBSS, IAAHA) - probably one at the end of each day during the event for 45 minutes each
• IAA wants to start registration process by around 1 December 2011
• There has been a discussion on whether retirees should have a lower registration fee - Morten Harbitz and Margaret Sherwood of IAA will look into this.
• They would need ASHK's further input on the fees - as it stands, the fees included in the budget look quite high. We may also like to include a "day-rate" for those who are local in Hong Kong who will only be attending part of the event. Also, should there be a lower fee for sponsoring organizations is also to be thought about.

3. Action points currently to be undertaken by the task force:
• Collate all the comments on topics and come up with a definitive list which will be included in the "Call for Papers" document.
• Make recommendation to the IACA on a locally acceptable fee level for the conference.
• Hook up ICC and Christian Levac, the person who is responsible for getting the colloquium website together (please see attached an email from him with link to the current website)

4. A recap of the deadlines agreed:
• End of March: complete first draft of the Call for Papers
• Beginning of April: Publish the Call for Papers, via the IAA website
• June: start inviting keynote speakers (one for each day during the conference)
• End of December: completion of the program

5. Website work undertaken by IAA (copying message from Christian Levac):

• The site can be found at: http://www.actuaries.org/HongKong2012/. The design is based on other colloquium sites we have built, but we have changed the colors and the banner. A few months ago I had an idea that perhaps we could build a logo for the colloquium based on a Chinese junk boat. I have attached the logo that we had created. I did not get any feedback from the organizers on this idea. I would appreciate letting us know whether you would like to use it going forward or if you have any other ideas that we could incorporate in the design of the website.
• I’ll go through each page and note what is required to finalize the site:
a. HOME : I have copied over the text from the previous Colloquium in Boston and updating the location and dates. I have also left blank the colloquium theme. I believe you indicated on today’s call that you look at finding this in the next few weeks. I have also listed some of the major topics included in the brainstorming session list. I have not listed them all – only the most popular/noteworthy that would draw the attention of potential attendees.
b. I have also put in a link to a pre-registration page (more on that later) and a general email address where inquiries can go to. At the moment, I have the questions coming to me, but perhaps we could direct them to someone else (it can be to more than one person too) if need be in the future.
c. CALL FOR PAPERS: Right now this is blank, with a simple line saying that it’ll come out next month. I can probably dig out the Call for Papers from Boston if that would help you prepare one this time.
d. PROGRAMME: Same as above
e. REGISTRATION: Here I have put in the pre-registration form that we had used for Boston. This is used to gather interest from prospective attendees and/or speakers.
f. ACCOMMODATIONS: ON this page I have listed the Sheraton as the host hotel. I will ask my colleague Anne to contact the Sheraton in order for them to setup the Stargroups link for delegates to make their hotel bookings. I have also included some photos of the hotel on this page.
g. SPONSORSHIP: Blank as well for now
h. HOST COMMITTEES: Here I have listed some of the names, but I might not sure that they are all there or properly broken down in the local organization committee and the scientific committee.
i. ABOUT HONG KONG: I don’t have any info for this part. Normally we can include some basic information about the city, attractions, visitor information, etc. Maybe ICC can supply this information for us.
• I look forward to working with you on enhancing the Colloquium website.

右は、Lloyd's of London ビル。)

Good Morning, ladies and gentlemen.
Welcome everyone to the 4th global ERM webcast Asia Pacific region program.
My name is HideyukiYoshida, I am regional chair of the Asia pacific ERM Webcast committee. I am Head of Analytics at Aon Benfield Japan LimitedI have been involved as a practitioner in the insurance industry for over 30 years. I am currently chairman of The Institute of Actuaries of Japan’s International Relations Committee and a board Member of the Institute.I served as Chairman of the International Association of Consulting Actuaries from 2008 to 2010. And at present I am chairman of the Asia Pacific Association of Consulting Actuaries.

I would like, first of all, to thank Mr.Jules Constantinou(of Gen ReUK), global chair of this year’s ERM Webcast. He has already referred to change and diversity in his introductory remarks and I believe the individual presentations that follow will reflect how these changes are occurring on a global scale. We are all aware of what a big task it has been to co-ordinate this entire webcast and we are very grateful for his efforts in bringing this together. I believe you will all find his concluding remarks of particular interest.

This year, we are specially honored to welcome the new president of the IAA, Mr. Cecil Bykerk; he has graciously accepted our invitation to speak at the annual ERM Webcast program. You have already heard briefly from Mr. Bykerk, in his introduction of the IAA and ERM. He will be addressing us again, after midday break to talk about research into risk management. This afternoon, he will introduce the concept of a global CERA credential. We are all very grateful to him for sharing his valuable time.
Finally, I would like to say thanks to the Asia Pacific regional committee members, Liyaquat Khan of India, Mary Liao of Australia, and Pat Kum of China.
We will be listening to three presentations
Recent Regulatory Developments in Insurance in Japan and ERM
Moderator: Hideyuki Yoshida, AON Benfield Japan
Presenter: Jumpei Miwa, FSA (Japan)

Global Issues and Asian influences
Moderator: SanchitMaini, Max New York Life Insurance Co., LTD
Presenter: Penny Fosker, Towers Watson, Hong Kong

Creating Risk Awareness in Insurance Business in Indonesia
Moderator: HalimGunawan,
Presenter: GatotHerliyanto, FSAI (Indonesia)

As you are probably aware, the Asia Pacific region consists of many diverse countries and economies, unlike the relative homogeneity of North America or the European Union. Some Asian countries suffer low interest rate environments, whereas others are experiencing hyper-inflationary trends. From the presentations to follow, you should gain valuable prospective of the way each country is managing the situation.
I would now like to introduce our first presenter, Mr. JumpeiMiwa, the Deputy Director of the Insurance Business Division Supervisory Bureau of Japan’s Financial Services Agency. He will be speaking about “Recent regulatory developments of insurance in Japan and ERM enhancements”. I will now hand over to Mr. Miwa.
